Recently we studied mountains and their formation.
Mountains are formed in many ways, two of which are 1. Fold mountains - Fold mountains are formed when two tectonic plates run into each other or collide. The force of the two plates running into each other causes the Earth's crust to crumple and fold. 2. Volcanoes - A volcano is a mountain from where the molten rocks or magma erupt through the surface. In simple terms, a volcano is an opening in the earth's surface from which the molten rocks and gases escape out. Once the magma erupts through the Earth's surface, it is called lava. Today we decided to make our own volcano using some simple household items. For more details check out sciencebob.com/make-your-own-volcano/. Today we celebrated Pancake Tuesday by making some delicious pancakes. We had a variety of toppings to choose from. They were yummy!!
The History of Shrove Tuesday The day before Lent begins is called Shrove Tuesday. 'Shrove' means being forgiven for wrong-doings. Another name for Shrove Tuesday is Pancake Tuesday. Long ago this was a day for feasting and having a good time. People went to church to confess the bad things they had done and would be 'shriven' or forgiven before the start of Lent. As rich foods such as eggs were forbidden during Lent, one way of using them up would be to make pancakes. ![]() This Tuesday - 13th February, we will celebrate Pancake/Shrove Tuesday in our school. Proceeds of our pancake event will go towards Pieta House.
This week we discussed the flu and some ways to prevent the spread of flu. We watched a video showing how easy germs/bacteria can spread. Following this we discussed how to properly wash our hands.
