This morning, looking very "spooktacular" with our Halloween costumes, we headed into Sligo Abbey for a lovely tour. Brenda our tour guide brought us around the Abbey highlighting areas of interest to us. She showed us where the monks would pray, sleep and eat. She told us about the underground tunnels which were used for protection purposes. The Abbey has many bats, however we didn't see this as they are nocturnal animals and only appear at night. Lots of fun and learning took place. Following a very busy first term, we would like to wish everyone a lovely midterm break - relax, enjoy and stay safe.
After lots of preparation and science work, our annual science fair finally arrived. Today, we welcomed family and friends into our school. This gave us the opportunity to demonstrate a wide variety of science experiments to them. We had 8 experiments in total which included, Colouring Changing Carnations, Growing Germs, Nuts and Bolts, Birds and Beaks, Plaque attack, Balancing Kids Toys, The Fake Hand Experiment and Making Play dough. Many thanks to all who came to support us. It was very much appreciated.
For the last number of weeks 1st and 2nd class have been using three different comprehension strategies to understand stories. They used, Prediction, Making Connections and Visualization. Here is a sample of their work. 3rd class worked with Ms Lennon and Ms Wynne on Inferring and Determining Importance. ![]() Well done to all the children who took part in the Green School Committees W.O.W. morning. All classes took part which was great to see. Many thanks to Ms Wynne and the Green School Committee for organizing the event.
