On Friday we started to get into the Christmas mood in preparation for the Toy show by painting and decorating some Christmas trees. Well done to Frazer, Liana, Liam and Katie who were elected onto the Green School Committee this year. They were very excited heading to their first meeting on Friday afternoon with Simon a senior member of the Committee. Well done.
In the past week we have been linking Gaeilge with Art and Drama. We performed the 3 little pigs as Gaeilge for the junior and senior infants. We painted the scenes to use in the play. It was great fun.
Many thanks to all the children and parents who took part in the Shoe box Appeal. It was a great success. The boxes were collected last week. Well done to the student council & Ms Mulligan for getting the project underway.
What fun we had on Thursday at the "Ag Sugradh le Chéile" Workshop. Parents from Junior Infants - 2nd class were invited with their children to come to the hall to attend a workshop. It was a great success and we thank all parents who attended. We also thank Sue the facilitator. Today we looked at magnets and the how they can attract and repel metals. We saw that magnets have a north side (red) and a south side (blue). We experimented with the magnets and paperclips.
We completed a snake spiral on Wednesday. By doing so we learned that warm air is lighter than cold air. Therefore warm air rises and cold air comes in to take its place. This causes air currents. These are called convection currents. We tested our snakes to see if the warm air from the radiator would make the snake spin. Here we are working hard on getting our snake spiral cut out.
Parents who are taking part in Ag Sugradh le Chéile can collect their child from school at 9.50am tomorrow morning. It will begin at 10am and will finish at 11.30am approximately. The event will be held in Ballintogher hall. Fruit and water will be supplied. Follow the link for more information.
http://www.sligosportandrecreation.ie/developing-sport/active-schools/playprogrammes/ Today for science week we worked on how to make a plastic lunch bag explode!! To do this we started with getting the equipment ready. We needed a small Ziploc bag, vinegar, tissue paper, water and baking soda. We put the water in the bag. Next we added the vinegar. Finally we added the baking soda and we had a huge BANG!!!! This was great fun. Follow the link for more information on carrying out the experiement at home. ![]()
